COUNCIL FOR HIGHER EDUCATION ACCREDITATION (CHEA)
|
The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) is a national advocate for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation. CHEA is an association of 3,000 degree-granting colleges and universities. CHEA recognizes 60 institutional and programmatic accrediting organizations grouped as follows:
Regional Accrediting Organizations
National Faith-Related Accrediting Organizations
National Career-Related Accrediting Organizations
Programmatic Accrediting Organizations
CHEA recognition is the scrutiny and certification of the quality of regional, faith-based, private career and programmatic accrediting organizations. CHEA is the only non-governmental higher education organization that undertakes this scrutiny. The federal government, through the US Department of Education (USDE), conducts governmental recognition reviews.
